April 2017 welcomes in the release of the self- titled debut album from Latimo, a high octane eight piece band featuring some of the UK’s most accomplished young musicians, unified through their obsessional love of funk & soul.
Formed in London in 2013, this potent and driven ensemble are distinctive for their contagious rhythms, punchy horn riffs and killer vocals.
Latimo have honed their skills on the London club circuit, working their way up to performances at some of the capital’s best independent live music venues such as Streatham’s Hideaway Jazz Club and the opulent surroundings of Boisdale Canary Wharf and the London Hippodrome , though their energy and swagger allow them to be just as at home in the beer soaked sweat pits of the Camden Enterprise or 229 Club.
Latimo’s album is a collection of ten original tracks written and arranged by band leader and keyboard player Nick Pike, a talented musician and composer also making a name for himself in the world of film and TV soundtracks.
The funk-fuelled breaks and euphoric choruses of Latimo demonstrate a true talent on the rise, resulting in work that only the most dedicated and tenacious of musicians could create.
Latimo’s lead vocalist Katie Birtill is asinger who is jaw-dropping to witness live. Also a rising star of musical theatre, Birtill swaps the boards of the West End for after hours haunts, showcasing the wilder side of her expert performance and vocal delivery.
Fusing these talents with audacious horns, gritty guitar riffs, rolling basslines and infectious rhythms make Latimo a true force to be reckoned with and one of the most exciting new bands on the circuit today.
