What do you do?
Along with the Chairman, my son Simon, and our Deputy Chairman, Peter, we have the overall responsibility to see everything is in place and employ the best people to do the job. I know we have achieved that goal.
What will you feel when the doors open for the first time to members of the public?
In my 62 years in business I have achieved many notable things. When the Hippodrome opens its doors I will feel the sense of pride that – alongside an incredible team – I have achieved the pinnacle of my business life.
What has been the highest point so far?
When the outside lighting came on and we could see the full glory of this unique building.
Why do you think the Hippodrome will be different from any other Casino?
In 1958 I had a wonderful casino that offered the finest cabaret entertainment as well as a great restaurant. The Government of the day insisted casinos should be purely for gambling with no fun or entertainment, so I closed. Now over 50 years later this Government has come to its senses and we are opening the first and only casino in the land which will provide a full leisure experience alongside the very latest gaming in the world – totally unique on our lovely island.
What are you most proud of?
Opening the doors for business.
What’s your favourite game to play at The Hippodrome Casino?
Real Roulette played at a live table with people enjoying the art form and excitement of the live game.
